Patrons and Presidents

A number of people with high media profiles are supporting the charity in different ways. These include:

James Whale

James Whale – President

James has presented phone-in programmes on UK radio for several decades and recently hosted shows on the national radio station talkRADIO and London’s LBC. James was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2000 and his experience of tackling the condition spurred him on to become one of the founder members  of the charity in 2006. He stepped down as Chairman and Trustee in January 2019. James was married to Melinda from 1970 until her untimely passing in early 2018, he has two sons, James and Peter.

Lord Dominic Addington, Patron

Dominic was the youngest serving peer in the House of Lords aged 22 after taking his father’s title. He became active after graduating from the University of Aberdeen, becoming Liberal Democrat sports spokesman in 1993, and has also been disability spokesman since 1994. He is the President of the British Dyslexic Association and the vice-president of the UK Sports Association.

Earl Howe, Vice President

Frederick Richard Penn Curzon, 7th Earl Howe, PC is a Conservative front bench member of the House of Lords. He is Minister of State for Defence and Deputy Leader of the House of Lords.

Tim O'Brien
Tim O’Brien MA DM FRCS(Urol), Honorary Vice-President

Tim is a consultant urologist at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Trust. He trained in general and vascular surgery before specialising in urology in 1992. He has special interests in all aspects of urology cancer, including screening. He also has clinical interests in urinary tract infection and sexual dysfunction. He is actively involved in urological cancer research and previously worked with the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in Oxford.
